- Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker or mixing glass.
- Fill the shaker with ice (some bartenders to do this before pouring).
- Secure the lid or shaker tin.
- Hold the shaker with both hands (one on each piece) and shake vigorously over your shoulder.
A cocktail shaker is a device used to mix beverages (usually alcoholic) by shaking. When ice is put in the shaker this allows for a quicker cooling of the drink before serving.
The majority of martinis are shaken and even those that are stirred will at least need a strainer to remove the ice. If you want a martini, there are no excuses for not having a shaker.
